Late header gives France victory over Brazil at Women's World Cup

France recorded their first victory at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup after a 2-1 win over Brazil in Brisbane on Saturday.

Eugenie Le Sommer gave the European side the lead in the first half before Debinha equalised for the South Americans after the interval.

Captain Wendie Renard however stepped up and scored with a powerful header from a corner in the 82nd minute to give France a vital three points.

The win means France go to the top of Group F with four points after starting their campaign with a disappointing goalless draw against Jamaica.

Brazil are second in the pool on three points after thrashing Panama 4-0 in their tournament opener and will still be confident of progressing through to the knockout stages.

The South American side play Jamaica in their final group match in Melbourne on Wednesday while France take on Panama.
