Lehlohonolo Seema bags Polokwane City coaching job

Newly promoted DStv Premiership side Polokwane City have roped in coach Lehlohonolo Seema to be part of the technical team.

SABC Sport has established that Seema, whose last job in the dugout was at Chippa United in the final four matches of the 2022/23 season to help them avoid relegation, will work alongside Duncan Lechasa and Phuti Mohafe.

City fought their way back to the topflight when they beat Pretoria Callies 4-0 on the final day of the Motsepe Foundation Championship in the second tier, gaining automatic promotion ahead of favourites Cape Town Spurs.

Lechasa has been able to hold on to his role as the head coach, while Mohafe will now be joined by Seema as support staff.

Their opening league game is away to Polokwane City at Atlone Stadium on Saturday 6 August, and it’s understood Seema has already joined the team in training.

Despite helping Chippa avoid the drop, chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi did not see it fit to keep Seema at the helm and opted to rather recall Morgan Mammila to take over the reins in the new campaign.

Seema has coached several other elite league side in the past, among them the now defunct Bloemfontein Celtic, Black Leopards and Golden Arrows.

The public broadcaster also understands there was talks in Lesotho they would consider the former defender to lead his home country following the sacking of Serbian mentor Veselin Jelusic, but Leslie Notsi has been given the job instead.
