Leon Goretzka eyes FC Barcelona move amid Bayern Munich uncertainty

The German internationals future at Bayern has been cast into doubt following the appointment of new head coach Vincent Kompany.

Recent reports from Florian Plettenberg have revealed that Goretzka, 29, is open to a move to Barcelona, Real Madrid, or Liverpool if he decides to leave Bayern Munich.

The situation has become increasingly precarious for the midfielder, with speculation growing that he may not fit into Kompany's plans.

Goretzka's current contract at Bayern runs up until 2026.

Bayern's sporting director, Christoph Freund, addressed the matter, highlighting the competitive nature of the midfield at the club.

Freund acknowledged Goretzka's long and successful tenure at Bayern but noted the intense competition for places. "Leon has been at Bayern for a very, very long time.

"He was very successful and is a great player. We spoke to him and made it clear to him that there's a lot of competition in his position," Freund said, as quoted by GOAL.

He added, "We are very well equipped there. Leon knows that. And that's why the situation is like this at the moment, and why he's not in the squad today."

Despite Freund's comments, no official offers for Goretzka have been received yet. Freund acknowledged interest from several clubs but emphasised that Bayern remain open to exploring potential opportunities.

Goretzka's future may hinge on Bayern's honorary president Uli Hoeness's statement that everyone deserves a second chance. This sentiment could suggest that Goretzka might still have a role at the club.

Meanwhile, with interest from Major League Soccer, Goretzka appears more focused on staying in Europe, with Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Liverpool emerging as potential destinations.
