Leon Goretzka's role secure as Jamal Musiala secured Bayern Munich's win

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has defended his decision to start Leon Goretzka in Saturday's 1-0 win over St. Pauli, marking his first Bundesliga start this season.

Despite Goretzka's uncertain future at the club, Kompany described the move as a "normal decision," noting Bayern's need for "fresh legs" after their midweek Champions League fixture against Benfica.

"We didn't doubt his qualities for a second, so it's a normal decision for me," Kompany stated post-match, acknowledging the speculation around Goretzka's place in the squad.

Goretzka, 29, has had limited minutes this season, making only nine appearances across all competitions before Saturday.

Bayern's sporting director, Christoph Freund, reinforced Kompany's stance, affirming Goretzka's importance.

"You can see that. If we didn't need him, he wouldn't be playing," Freund remarked, emphasizing that Goretzka still has a role to play at Bayern.

The victory itself was secured by a moment of brilliance from Jamal Musiala, who struck a stunning long-range goal to clinch Bayern's fourth consecutive league win.

Reflecting on his goal, Musiala shared that he has been refining his long-shot technique. "I've been practising long-range shots in training, and I'm very happy it worked today," he said. "It was my first goal from outside the box this season."

At 21, Musiala has emerged as a pivotal figure for Bayern, tallying nine goals and four assists in 14 Bundesliga matches. "I took a step forward last season," Musiala noted, "and now I'm delivering more goals and assists. I'm trying to play at a high level in every game."

Bayern's win maintained their momentum in the Bundesliga, with Kompany's decision-making and Musiala's continued development promising positive outcomes for the team.
