Leroy Sane backs Vincent Kompany to excel at Bayern Munich

In a surprising move, Bayern Munich recently appointed former Manchester City player Vincent Kompany as their new head coach.

Leroy Sane, the Bavarian winger, expressed confidence in Kompany's ability to lead the Bundesliga giants to glory.

Sane praised Kompany's leadership qualities and impeccable character, emphasizing how the 38-year-old had supported young players during their time together at Manchester City. Sane believed that Kompany's ambition and coaching skills will translate well at FC Bayern.

"He was an absolute leader with an impeccable character who always led the way [at Manchester City]," Sane told Kicker. "He looked after us young players really well and supported us.

"He is also extremely ambitious. All these qualities that he has can make him a very, very good coach. I absolutely trust him to do a good job at FC Bayern."

Kompany's arrival marks a reunion for Sane, who played alongside him at Man City before joining Bayern in July 2020. Their strong relationship could prove beneficial for Sane, who aims to rediscover his form after a lacklustre second half of the Bundesliga season.

As a highly regarded young coach, his impact will be closely monitored, especially given his prior Bundesliga experience during his time at Hamburger SV.

Kompany's official Bayern debut, which will occur in the first round of the DFB-Pokal against SSV Ulm on 16 August.
