Germany's Leroy Sane shoulders blame for Austria defeat after sending off

Germany winger Leroy Sane has taken the blame for the 2-0 loss to Austria in an international friendly in Leopoldstadt.

Goals from former Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer and TSG Hoffenheim's Christoph Baumgartner separated the sides.

Sane compromised his side by getting sent off in the 49th minute for clipping Austria's Phillip Mwene as the two had a strong verbal exchange after a rash challenge from Sane.

It was Julian Nagelsmann's second loss in charge of the national team and Sane admits his frustration at his own performances for the Mannschaft recently such as in the 3-2 loss to Turkey.

"The game is on me, that can't happen to me. No blame to the boys, no blame to my opponent. I was frustrated with my own performance - today, but also against Turkey," he explained to Sport1's Kerry Hau (via @iMiaSanMia).

Sané could also possibly receive a ban of up to three matches for Germany as punishment for the incident that led to his red card against Austria. For him, if the ban is, in fact, enforced, this would mean he would miss out on Germany's final preparations for next summer's European Championships.
