Lesotho targeting COSAFA Cup milestone against stubborn Zambia

Lesotho are targeting a milestone when they face defending champions Zambia in the COSAFA Cup final at the King Zwelithini Stadium this evening.

It’s been more than two decades since Dikwena reached this stage of the regional tournament, and this is already an achievement on its own.

But coach Leslie Notsi now feels confident they can go all the way.

"It's been 23 years, that was the last time we qualified for the final of the COSAFA CAUP, So, to us as the national team setup, we really think we've got something to offer. Coming into the game, we are quite happy that we have some youngsters who have really shown up in the tournament and they kept us in the game, there's nothing much one can want from the right now," Notsi said.

Notsi feels they are in a position to argue Lesotho have made the most out of the competition in Durban, especially considering he is an interim coach following the departure of Veselin Jelusic.

"The AFCON qualifiers, we had not been doing well and we had to lose our coach. So, for me coming in with the technical team. It was a new chapter within a very short space of time whereby we had to prepare the team for the tournament," he explained.

"We are in a transition phase where we are saying the COSAFA tournament was a very good platform. We are playing about six matches, which you don't really get during the season."
