Leverkusen's Granit Xhaka frustrated by draw despite dominant performance

Granit Xhaka has voiced disappointment after Bayer Leverkusen's 0-0 draw on Friday night with VfB Stuttgart, stating it was their best performance of the season.

The Bundesliga match, held at the BayArena, saw Leverkusen create a plethora of opportunities but failed to convert any into goals.

"We're disappointed," Xhaka stated in a post-match interview with DAZN. âœThat was our best performance of the season.

"With the ball and without the ball, we worked very hard and created a lot of chances. Sometimes you have to reward yourself."

Despite dominating possession, Leverkusen could not find the back of the net, leaving them with four draws this season.

This result meant that Xabi Alonso's side could not rise above third place in the Bundesliga table, with Eintracht Frankfurt, SC Freiburg, and Union Berlin all poised to potentially overtake them.

The match got off to a challenging start for Stuttgart when Jamie Leweling strained his thigh in just the third minute, forcing an early substitution. From then on, the first half was firmly in Leverkusen's control, with Stuttgart failing to register a single shot on target.

Leverkusen began to threaten the Stuttgart goal shortly after the ten-minute mark, with VfB keeper Alexander Nubel making crucial saves against attempts from Jeremie Frimpong and Alejandro Grimaldo.

As the first half progressed, the hosts ramped up the pressure, nearly scoring on several occasions, including a header from Edmond Tapsoba that struck the crossbar just before half-time.

After the break, Leverkusen continued to push for a breakthrough, with Victor Boniface hitting the post in the 53rd minute.

However, an injury to Nordi Mukiele added to Leverkusen's woes, disrupting their momentum.

Stuttgart managed a rare chance through Chris Fuhrich but could not find the net.

Despite late efforts, including another close attempt from Frimpong, neither side could secure a decisive goal.

The match concluded without any score, leaving Leverkusen frustrated as they looked to reclaim their form in the upcoming fixtures.
