Levi Colwill is prepared to sign a long-term Chelsea extension

Levi Colwill and Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement for a new long-term contract that will extend for six years.

During the 2022/23 season, the England Under-21 international showcased his skills while on loan at Brighton under the management of Roberto De Zerbi.

Brighton were eager to secure Colwill's permanent signing and prepared a club record offer, but the young defender wanted to hold talks with new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino before making a decision about his future.

Colwill is now confident that he will be given opportunities to play under Pochettino's guidance at Stamford Bridge. As a result, he has agreed to the terms of the new contract with Chelsea, even though his current deal still has two years remaining, with an option for an additional season.

Brighton had to abandon their pursuit of Colwill as Chelsea remained firm in their stance of not selling the player, despite interest from Liverpool, who also targeted him as a top priority due to his desire for regular playing time.

Pochettino is continuing to streamline his squad before the transfer window closes, with Thiago Silva, Benoit Badiashile, and Trevoh Chalobah being considered as alternative options to Colwill.

Unfortunately, Wesley Fofana has experienced another injury setback and will be unavailable for the early months of the 2023/24 season.
