After gaining promotion from the Sasol League last year, the KwaZulu Natal newcomers got off to a flying start in the Hollywoodbets Super League with a convincing 3-0 win over Thunderbirds Ladies in their first match. But since then, it has been a huge struggle, managing only one draw and suffered 11 losses. Lindelani Ladies are second from bottom on four points after 13 games. Faya, who was speaking after their 3-0 defeat to the University of Johannesburg on Saturday (8 June), says this is affecting their families.
''It is worrying for everyone, even for our parents as well - they have been praying and things are not looking good but in terms of players from then till now there is a difference in terms of training, in terms of transition in the game. So even the system is changing, we are trying,'' said Faya.
Faya believes the reason they are struggling is that they have new players, but above all, the Sasol League level and that of the Hollywoodbets Super League are way different.
''Coaches have basically done everything behind closed doors, they have shared every option. It's just that players are grasping a bit slower and things are different here from the Sasol league,'' added Faya.
Faya believes they CAN get out of the danger zone but at the same time is very doubtful. When asked how confident she is about escaping relegation, she had this to say.
With the second round of the season looming, Faya is well aware that all teams will be fighting for survival and things are going to get tougher.
