Liverpool boss praises Salah's performance against Ipswich amid contract speculation

Liverpool FC head coach Arne Slot has heaped praise on Egyptian star Mohamed Salah following his impressive display in the Reds' 4-1 victory over Ipswich Town at Anfield.

Salah, who netted Liverpool's second goal of the match, earned admiration not just for his attacking prowess but also for his remarkable defensive contribution during the game.

The 32-year-old forward, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the season, made headlines for his relentless work rate. A standout moment came in the second half when Salah lost possession to Ipswich's Jaden Philogene in the final third. Instead of conceding the play, he sprinted back to the halfway line to win the ball and restore control for Liverpool.

"It's also nice that you (journalists) bring it up, because mostly with Mo Salah, it's about his contract or his goals. Now, it's about his defensive work rate," he said, as quoted by Kingfut.com.

"That moment stood out because it was something we could all see. But if you look at almost every instance where we lost the ball, I saw a similar reaction from many players."

Slot emphasized the significance of Salah's defensive commitment, particularly against Ipswich, a team known for their quick counter-attacks.

"Playing against a team with fast wingers and a strong number nine who goes into a low block makes it incredibly difficult to control counter-attacks. The only way to manage that is by doing what Mo did in that moment, and what so many other players did in different moments," Slot explained.

Salah's efforts on both ends of the pitch continue to underline his value to Liverpool, as the team remains at the top of the Premier League table.
