Liverpool are reportedly targeting Valencia's 21-year-old central midfielder Javi Guerra as they look to bolster their squad during the January transfer window.

With the Reds sitting atop the Premier League table, manager Arne Slot is eager to secure key signings to solidify their title challenge.

Guerra, who has impressed this season with his composure on the ball and tactical intelligence, has drawn comparisons to former Liverpool stalwart Xabi Alonso.

Renowned for his expert passing and ability to dictate the tempo, Alonso was a pivotal figure at Anfield between 2004 and 2009, before his departure to Real Madrid left a void in Liverpool's midfield.

Slot appears keen to replicate Alonso's influence by targeting Guerra, a player known for his ability to control possession and contribute both defensively and offensively.

The Spaniard's release clause is set at £84million, but reports from September suggest Valencia might entertain offers closer to £25million.

Liverpool face competition for Guerra's signature, with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and West Ham also monitoring the young talent.

Slot's interest in Guerra aligns with his tactical vision, as the Dutch manager emphasises midfield dominance and precise ball retention.

Should Liverpool secure the deal, Guerra's skill set could prove instrumental in maintaining their momentum at the top of the league and rekindling the control they have missed since Alonso's departure.
