Lyle Foster will lead from the front in Burnley promotion charge

Lyle Foster joined Burnley from KVC Westerlo in January 2023, and since then, when available, he's been a regular starter for the Clarets.

In the Premier League after promotion, this trend continued, and now that Burnley are back in the second tier, you can expect Foster to lead from the front as they look to bounce back at the first time of asking.

Burnley are currently without a manager after Vincent Kompany left to take over at German giants Bayern Munich. But regardless of this, the recent football betting odds suggest the Clarets are still in with a great chance of making it back to the Premier League in 2024/25. And it's the players in their ranks, the likes of South Africa international Foster, that strengthen their case.

When Foster signed for Burnley, he penned an initial deal, which was then extended later in 2023, with his present contract running until the summer of 2028. So, the likelihood is that the Clarets hierarchy won't be looking to move him on anytime soon, and the fact that there are four years left to run on his deal gives them a bit of security.

Craig Bellamy, who was Kompany's assistant manager during his time at Turf Moor, is in the running to be named the club's permanent manager, and you'd think this would work in Foster's favour. Not only is the striker a player the Welshman knows well, but he's a player who possesses some similar qualities to what he had during his playing days.

And it's these qualities that will make Foster a real handful for defenders in what will be his first full season in the Championship. The South African is over 6'0 tall, but he's very mobile and possesses great pace. Combine that with his high work rate that he's renowned for, and Burnley have a very capable attacker on their hands.

Another manager linked with the manager's post at Turf Moor is , with the former Chelsea manager known for having a preference for younger players who are high energy and all action. Foster ticks that specific box with aplomb as he's twenty-three, turning twenty-four in September.

Whoever the new manager ends up being, with Bellamy in charge in the interim, Foster will be a good fit because he has the attributes to play different styles. He's fast, so he's effective on the counterattack. He's 6'1, so he can play with his back to goal if needed and bring others in before turning and utilising his acceleration.

What Burnley will then hope to see is Foster rediscover the goalscoring form he showed at his former club Westerlo. He scored thirteen goals and created nine in less than fifty outings for the Belgian outfit, and adding goals to his game in the Championship will be the icing on the cake. He could well end up being the difference between regaining Premier League football or not next season.
