Lyle Lakay raises concerns over SuperSport United’s scoring form

SuperSport United utility player Lyle Lakay has said the overreliance on striker Bradley Grobler has left the team exposed with the player currently injured.

Matsatsantsa have tried to move swiftly by securing the signature of another forward in Samir Nurkovic, but his paperwork is not yet over the line.

Lakay admits scoring is a concern that needs to be addressed immediately.

"You mention Grant [Magerman] and you mention Bradley, firstly you know Bradley has been our top goal scorer for the last two, three seasons and for the players that are in the same position, you should look at it as an opportunity to obviously fill in," Lakay said.

"Having said that I think we've been struggling to score this season, we played four games and we scored two goals. So yeah, it's an opportunity for the guys to step up. I still believe you know, even though we started off bad, we can or our attackers can fulfil and start scoring for the team and we can start winning."

Lakay added that he too is one of the senior figures that should be part of the solution.

"We relied a lot on Bradley, we all know we relied a lot on Bradley and I think that's also played a big part you know but I mean we have Terrence [Dzvukamanja], there's Mangezi [Nokutenda] that we brought in, there's Thabang but we can't only rely on them,” he added.

“Myself, the attackers, the wingers, last year I think I was probably the third or the second highest. I think Bradley, Ighodaro [Etiosa], myself and Terrence but yeah, we can't just rely on attackers."

SuperSport will return to action after the FIFA break with a Carling Knockout opening round clash against Kaizer Chiefs.

Lakay hopes they would have put enough effort in the training ground by then to turn things around.

"Coach Gavin's [Hunt] style also sometimes we rely on set pieces and with set pieces we rely on our defenders to score. As a team we have to contribute more with the scoring and to be honest I don't think we've played badly even though we haven't gotten the results but at the end of the day, if we don't score, we're not gonna get the results,” he explained.

“So, yeah, we have to fix that. Obviously, we've got two weeks to rectify our mistakes or to work on what we're not doing well and hopefully, we can implement it in the Chiefs game and obviously win it."
