Magesi stun Mamelodi Sundowns with comeback win to claim Carling Knockout Cup

Magesi crowned their maiden topflight season with an historic 2–1 triumph over Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday to secure the Carling Knockout Cup.

The Limpopo side upset their illustrious opponents with a spirited comeback to claim the title in Bloemfontein.

Sundowns dominated the first half, creating wave after wave of attacks. Magesi's goalkeeper, Elvis Chipezeze, delivered a heroic performance, denying efforts from Lucas Ribeiro, Teboho Mokoena, and Peter Shalulile early on.

Despite his best efforts, Sundowns broke through in the 36th minute when Ribeiro set up Iqraam Rayners, who slotted home to give the favourites a deserved lead.

The second half saw a rejuvenated Magesi FC. Within two minutes of the restart, Tshepo Kakora equalised with a powerful header from Edmore Chirambadare's expertly delivered corner.

Chirambadare would later provide the decisive moment of the match.

As Sundowns searched for a winner, Chipezeze continued to frustrate them, making vital saves, including a spectacular stop of Mokoena's long-range shot in the 68th minute.

Then, in the 87th minute, Magesi stunned the crowd. Chirambadare's pinpoint corner found Delano Abrahams, who scored a dramatic winner just three minutes before full-time.

The final whistle sparked scenes of jubilation for Magesi FC, who lifted the Carling Knockout Cup in their debut topflight season.

Chipezeze's resilience and Chirambadare's creative brilliance defined the game, while the victory cemented Magesi's place in South African football history.
