TS Galaxy enjoyed the better of the opening minutes in the 37-degree heat of Mbombela Stadium, controlling the ball well and mourning persistent attacks.
The home side nearly went up when Dzenan Zajmovic pounced on failed clearance and wrapped his right foot nicely around the ball, but Magesi gloveman Elvis Chipezeze was equal to the task.
Mcberth Mahlangu then had a chance with a powerful header from a swerving cross, but he could only find the hands of Chipezeze.
Despite TS Galaxy's clear dominance, Magesi would have the last laugh of the half. A miscommunication between defender and goalkeeper left a loose ball bouncing around in the six-yard box and Lehlegonolo Mokone pounced to spill first blood, silencing the home band.
In the second stanza, the Rockets continued to show control, forcing several huge defensive efforts from Magesi. Deep as the visitors were, they would look to counter rather than clear, but to ill-effect.
TS Galaxy had their best chance to equalise in the 84th minute. A beautiful cross swerved away from goal and into the path of a charging Mahlangu, who forced a superlative save from Chipezeze.
Magesi even had a chance to put the game to bed in the dying embers, but Ayanda Ndamane cleared the ball from an open net.
