Bouncing back from their shock 1-0 loss to Polokwane City on Sunday, Masandawana were back to their attacking ways in Pretoria. Heavy hitters Peter Shalulile, Lucas Costa Ribeiro and Ronwen Williams were back in the lineup. And it showed.
Sundowns moved the ball through the high defensive line of Cape Town City with ease, creating opportunities aplenty.
Shalulile opened their account in the 16th minute, beating gloveman Darren Keet with a superlative effort from the edge of the box.
The seemingly perennial PSL champions doubled their lead near the end of the opening stanza. Ribeiro got on the end of an accurate cross from Khuliso Mudaun, finishing with aplomb.
It was more of the same in the second half. Forward Iqraam Rayners made a delicate touch to put Shalulile in space and the Namibian ace only needed one touch to send the ball home, making it 3-0 in the 54th minute.
Williams had a relatively quiet evening under the crossbar for Sundowns, but he was called on to save a tame effort by Prins Tijueza, then later parried a shot from Heaven Sereets.
Sundowns coasted to the final whistle, happy to get their title defence back on track.
