The two parties have been involved in ongoing discussions for several months now on the back of Kekana being crowned the Defender of the Season at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
Sundowns were once again winners of the DStv Premiership, which has now been taken over by Betway as the title sponsor.
Kekana joined The Brazilians from their crosstown rivals SuperSport United in July 2021 on a five-year contract as confirmed by his new club.
It’s understood the agreement was broken down into a straight three year deal with options to push it the full length.
However, following his performance last season for both club and country, including helping Bafana win bronze at the Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in Cote d’Ivoire earlier this year, Kekana and his camp began discussing new terms with Sundowns.
According to information gathered by the public broadcaster, the two parties have since agreed a deal over a long-term contract with an announcement to be made by Downs at a later stage.
Kekana becomes the third player at Sundowns to be rewarded with a new deal since the AFCON – the others are Bafana teammates goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and midfielders Teboho Mokoena as well as Themba Zwane.
Williams signed to remain at Chloorkop until June 2028, while Mokwena agreed to a deal all the way to 2029.
Zwane was only given an extension for 12 months, which means Sundowns will again discuss his future at the end of the season.
