Sundowns Ladies forward grateful to be part of the SA U17 women's technical team

Former Banyana Banyana striker Rhoda Mulaudzi says being part of the South African U17 Women’s National team is a dream come true.

The Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies forward was roped in to be the assistant to head coach Ntombifuthi Khumalo in the two recent FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Gabon.

The duo led the South African team to an emphatic 21-2 aggregate victory in the first round, setting up a mouth-watering clash against Nigeria in the second round in March. Mulaudzi says being on the bench was a full-circle moment for her.

"It's a dream come true. Being part of the national team as a player was a great honour and now contributing as an assistant coach feels like a continuation of that legacy, if I may put it that way. It's a full circle moment that reminds me how far I've come and inspires me to give back to the game in a new way as a coach of course," Mulaudzi said.

Mulaudzi, who has been capped 30 times, says the experience of being on the national team technical bench is an opportunity to learn and will undoubtedly enhance her knowledge and approach as a coach.

"Being part of the national team setups broadens my perspectives and sharpens my skills. It's an opportunity to learn from the best because you are now with the best of the best. People who have high international experience,” she added.

“It also has taught me to adapt to higher pressure situations and also to contribute to the development of football at the highest level. This experience will undoubtedly enhance my knowledge and approach as a coach."

Mulaudzi is also one of the coaches of the U16 women’s team at Sundowns alongside Brazilians teammates Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Zanele Madonsela.

They have won several titles but their latest achievement was promoting the U16s to the 2025 Sasol League.

Currently armed with CAF C and D License Coaching certificates, Mulaudzi is working towards securing another badge.
