Mamelodi Sundowns march on with away win against Chippa United

Mamelodi Sundowns put in a professional performance at Chippa United on Saturday to secure a comfortable 2-0 victory in the DStv Premiership.

The Brazilians smoothly secured their fourth consecutive victory this season, tallying ten goals scored and only two conceded.

Sundowns' dominance earned them 12 points in the early stages of the season, granting them a five-point lead over second-placed SuperSport United, who've played one game fewer.

In stark contrast, Chippa finds themselves in dire straits, yet to secure a win this season, with only one goal in four matches and three draws.

Sundowns' triumph resulted from first-half goals by Aubrey Modiba and an unfortunate own goal by Justice Chabalala. Within five minutes, Chippa lost their bearings, allowing Sundowns to seize control.

Sundowns' coach, Rulani Mokwena, made adjustments from their previous 4-0 victory against Golden Arrows, with Modiba and Lucas Ribeiro entering the lineup.

Chippa's lineup also saw changes, with Craig Martin, Luvuyo Memela, and Azola Ntsabo stepping in after holding Orlando Pirates to a 1-1 draw.

Despite Chippa's Goodman Mosele and Ayabulela Konqobe keeping the midfield battle alive, Sundowns' quality began to shine through.

Midfielder Modiba broke the deadlock with a powerful close-range shot after a pass from Themba Zwane. Chabalala's own goal further worsened Chippa's situation.

Chippa managed to rally in the latter part of the first half, but Sundowns' goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, thwarted their attempts. The second half saw changes but no additional goals, cementing Sundowns' status as early frontrunners in the league.
