Mamelodi Sundowns to settle score with Magesi - Thapelo Morena

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thapelo Morena is not expecting a repeat of the surprise cup result when The Brazilians face Magesi in Betway Premiership action tonight.

The Limpopo-based outfit delivered the biggest shock of the season so far when they beat The Brazilians 2-1 in the Carling Knockout final two months ago.

Downs travel to Polokwane today as they pick up on their league campaign, hoping to cement their position at the top of the log standings.

Morena, aware that Magesi now has a new coach in Owen da Gama,, says no two games are ever the same.

"I think the mentality is going to be the same, the hunger is going to be the same because we know how it is in the PSL – it's a different team against them," said Morena.

"Also for us, we know that we played Magesi against them in the final and we didn't have a good result, so this time we're going to take it a notch up."

Sundowns too have had a change in coach since their last meeting with Dikwena Tsa Meetse, following the arrival of Miguel Cardoso, and Morena says there’s an appetite to pick up more points, with revenge not the only thing on their minds.

"Not just that [revenge], but also to fix our record in the league, knowing that number-two [Orlando Pirates] are, I think, three points behind us," he added.

"So we also have to try and level up and be opening the game, which is very important because if we continue winning, it's going to be difficult for other teams to catch up.

"Also, when you win and the other teams [chasing pack] win, it's good because it pushes us to the level that we're also need to prepare for the CAF Champions League [knockout stage]."
