Man City's six-gun salute shocks Ipswich

Manchester City put on a masterclass performance, thrashing Ipswich Town 6-0 at Portman Road in the Premier League on Sunday.

The result not only showcased City's potential but also highlighted their return to form, moving them into the top four.

Pep Guardiola, reflecting on the match, said, "Everything was really good. We were so aggressive and with the ball we were quicker, faster, wiser in the decisions we had to take."

He emphasized the importance of the result but also the realization of what the team can achieve when they play to their capabilities.

"The most important thing today is the result for obvious reasons but also the fact that they realise what we were," Guardiola added.

The match was a stark reminder of City's prowess, especially against newly-promoted teams, marking their 21st win in their last 22 Premier League encounters with such opposition. Despite recent struggles, City showed no mercy from the outset.

After an early scare when Ipswich's Liam Delap was denied by Josko Gvardiol, Erling Haaland tested Christian Walton, setting the tone for what was to come.

Phil Foden, back from injury, was instrumental, scoring the opener from a Kevin De Bruyne assist at the 27-minute mark.

Just three minutes later, Foden turned provider for Mateo Kovacic, who doubled the lead.

By halftime, Foden had scored again, this time from another De Bruyne delivery, showcasing the synergy between the duo.

The second half saw Jeremy Doku add to the scoreline with a deflected shot, followed by Haaland capitalizing on a mistake to score his brace.

The rout was completed by substitute James McAtee, who headed in the sixth goal, underlining City's depth and the effectiveness of Guardiola's bench.

Guardiola also highlighted the impact of returning players like Ruben Dias and the consistent form of De Bruyne, stating, "Having Ruben in the team is massive. Kevin wasn't there last season, this season maybe no, but now he's playing at a level where we know he is an exceptional player."

This performance, while one match, signals a potential resurgence for Manchester City as they aim to reclaim their dominant status in both domestic and European competitions.

With Champions League matches on the horizon, this victory over Ipswich could be the catalyst needed for a return to their lethal best.
