United's negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain for Ugarte remain stalled, prompting the club to consider alternative options.
Among the alternatives under consideration are Adrien Rabiot and Martin Zubimendi, as United aim to bolster their midfield before the transfer window closes.
Another name on the radar is Sofyan Amrabat, despite United not exercising the option to buy him in the previous deal that brought him to the club.
An intriguing possibility also lies within the Premier League. Conor Gallagher of Chelsea has emerged as a potential target, with Chelsea seeking a deal worth around ã30million, including add-ons, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The negotiations with Atletico Madrid for Gallagher are ongoing, but the ã30million price tag may tempt United into making a bid.
Comparatively, the ã30million fee for Gallagher is significantly lower than what PSG is reportedly demanding for Ugarte.
This financial feasibility could allow United to retain key players such as Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Scott McTominay, while still sanctioning the sale required to sign a replacement.
Romano's report highlights that Chelsea's asking price for Gallagher, who is in the final year of his contract, presents United with a viable option.
This comes as Chelsea's demand is half of what they received from United for Mason Mount 12 months ago, potentially leading to a combined ã90million expenditure for both players.
