Man Utd's Leny Yoro could be out of action until December

Manchester United centre-back Leny Yoro still to return to full fitness after sustaining a foot injury during a pre-season match against Arsenal.

The injury, which occurred during an intense clash, has sidelined the former Lille player, preventing him from being available for the start of the Premier League season.

Yoro, who joined the Reds from Lille, underwent successful surgery on his foot three weeks ago and is currently in the midst of a rigorous rehabilitation programme.

The club has set a tentative target for his return, aiming to have him back in action by the Christmas period.

Injury expert Ben Dinnery admitted that it's difficult to predict how long a player would need to recover, especially considering the type of injury.

"It is difficult to put a concrete return date in because obviously they do vary depending on the individual and of course other factors," Dinnery told MEN Sport.

"Typically we are looking in the region of about 80-90 days to return to playing.

"That could potentially be expedited, we have had players return within that 80 day period but it has on occasions extended way beyond that.

"That comes down to the type of surgery but historically it has always been around those timeframes - week two you should be doing this, week three you might be doing that.

"However, now it is about incorporating the rehab and the recovery around key points within that so once you get to a certain point, then you progress. A player might take ten days and then somebody else 20 days.

"It really comes down to the individual and Ten Hag will be looking at other factors that will influence [his return] like how things are going on the pitch, where they are in terms of availability of other players, the depth of the squad and how it will be utilised. Maybe there will be opportunities to allow players to go through that full recovery process and be eased back in with the team.

"As we have seen with some players in the past, players sometimes thrust interaction back onto the pitch earlier than they would have liked. But it will certainly be in the realms of that three-month period.

"Anything before then will be a bit of a bonus and if it does extend then United have that duty of care with a player with long-term goals."

Fans of the club are anxiously awaiting updates on Yoro's progress, with many taking to social media to express their hope for an earlier-than-expected return.

Over the bank holiday weekend, Yoro fuelled speculation by posting a cryptic sand timer emoji alongside a photo of himself walking out of a tunnel in Manchester United's kit, suggesting that he is eager to make his comeback.
