The loss on Monday night has left United seven points above the relegation zone, languishing in 14th place in the Premier League.
"It is really clear and we have to fight," Amorim said in his post-match interview. He acknowledged the precarious position his teams find themselves in, stating, "We have to acknowledge our position...we have to win games and focus on surviving."
The defeat marks a troubling run of form for United, who have lost four successive games across all competitions and five of their last six in the league, with the last three being home losses.
Amorim described the situation as "a little bit embarrassing," taking responsibility for the team's downturn. "Yes, it's also my fault in this moment, because I think the team are not improved, I think they are a little bit lost in this moment," he admitted during the post-match press conference.
The match against Newcastle was particularly bleak for United in the first half, where they conceded early goals from headers by Alexander Isak and Joelinton.
Newcastle capitalized on their lead and hit the woodwork, showcasing their dominance. Amorim made a tactical change in the 33rd minute, substituting Joshua Zirkzee for Kobbie Mainoo, which was met with ironic cheers from the home fans.
Amorim commented on Zirkzee's brief exit, "He wanted to be (in the dressing room) and then he returned in the second half. It was a very difficult moment and he is a human being, but then he felt the support of the fans in the end so everything is OK."
Despite some improvement in the second half, United couldn't find the net, with Harry Maguire's header hitting the post being the closest they came to scoring. Marcus Rashford, returning to the squad after a four-game absence, did not see any minutes on the pitch.
On the other side, Newcastle's manager, Eddie Howe, was pleased with his team's performance, especially given the historical difficulty of securing a win at Old Trafford. "We know the hurt this fixture has had for us historically, it wasn't lost on us," Howe said.
"I think we need to win games to achieve what we want on a regular basis."
Newcastle's victory was their fifth consecutive win, propelling them to fifth in the league standings and marking their first league win at Old Trafford since 2013.
They are set to face Tottenham next, while Manchester United travel to face league leaders Liverpool in what promises to be another challenging fixture.
