Manchester City's early Champions League exit puts focus on domestic battle

Pep Guardiola's side finished 22nd out of 36 in the new league phase format, failing to progress automatically to the last 16.

A play-off against Real Madrid ended their hopes, as they were beaten 6-3 on aggregate.

With their European campaign over, City must now turn their attention to securing qualification for next season's tournament.

Currently sitting fourth in the Premier League, Guardiola's side are locked in a tight race for a Champions League spot.

Their recent victory over Tottenham was crucial, but with only five points separating third and tenth, there is little margin for error.

The potential addition of a fifth English qualifier via UEFA's coefficient system could improve their chances, but a strong finish is still essential.

City's remaining fixtures are favourable, as they do not face any of the current top six for the rest of the season. Next up is Nottingham Forest, where a win could lift them into third.

Of their final 10 games, only four are against top-half teams, and their away fixtures are against sides struggling in mid-table or the relegation battle.

If City secure qualification, their strong UEFA ranking ensures they will remain in Pot One under the new seeding system.
