Martin Terrier reflects on new beginnings at Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer Leverkusen's latest acquisition, Martin Terrier, has shared his initial thoughts following his move to the BayArena.

The French forward, who joined Leverkusen from Rennes, has been impressed with the club's facilities and training environment.

Speaking to Kicker, Terrier admitted he was taken aback by the high intensity of the training sessions. "The training intensity was quite surprising," he remarked. "The facilities and infrastructure are top-notch, which speaks volumes about the club's ambition."

Terrier revealed that his decision to join Leverkusen was driven by the desire for a new challenge. "It was an easy choice for me," he explained. "This is a fantastic opportunity to embrace a new league and culture.

"Joining a team that clinched two titles last season represents a significant step forward in my career."

As for the team's aspirations for the upcoming Bundesliga season, Terrier is focused on contributing to their success. "Our goal is to defend our championship title and make a strong impression in the Champions League," he said.

"I am committed to integrating quickly and bringing my experience to the squad. Of course, scoring goals is also a priority for me."

Leverkusen's attacking options are robust this season, with the likes of Patrick Schick, Florian Wirtz, Victor Boniface, Amine Adli, Jonas Hofmann, and Nathan Tella all available.

Terrier expressed confidence in managing the competition for places. "I'm not concerned about the competition," he stated. "Xabi Alonso selects players based on the opponents. My versatility, being able to play in three attacking positions, should serve me well.

"The team scored plenty of goals last season, and having depth in attack is crucial."

Terrier's addition will further bolster Leverkusen's offensive depth, addressing a need that became apparent after Boniface's injury earlier in the year.

Prior to his move to Germany, Terrier had a notable career in France, representing Lille, Strasbourg, Lyon, and Rennes, where he achieved considerable success.

Leverkusen will kick off their season on August 17 in the DFL Super Cup, facing last season's runners-up, VfB Stuttgart.
