Marumo Gallants living the dream as they progress to CAF semi-finals

Marumo Gallants secured their place in the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup with a 2-1 aggregate victory over Egyptian Premier League side Pyramids.

The South African side drew 1-1 with their African counterparts last week and completed the job on Sunday as Celimpilo Ngema fired his side to a 1-0 win at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

The Pharaohs had started the tie well with Mostafa Fathi seeing his early goal-bound shot well blocked on route to goal.

Mohamed Hamdy then fired over the target, as Lucky Mohomi shot just wide as Gallants engineered their first chance after a well-worked set-piece on 15 minutes.

The away side remained on the attack with Walid El Karti having a header plucked out of the air by Washington Arubi in the Gallants goal on 25 minutes after latching onto a headed pass from Ramadan Sobhi.

But Gallants started to press and both Mohomi and Letsie Koapeng had a chance to shoot at goal before Ngema fired into the bottom left corner of the Pyramids goal for a 1-0 lead on 39 minutes.

In-form striker Ranga Chivaviro came close to making it two with a blocked shot just before the break as Sobhi failed to make his effort count as the half drew to a close.

Fagrie Lakay was off-target for his Egyptian side ten minutes after the restart before Chivaviro forced a strong save from Ahmed El-Shenawy.

Ahmed Tawfik should have done better with a shot at goal on 65 minutes that flew just wide, ahead of an off-target header from Chivaviro five minutes later.

Lakay forced a save from Arubi in what was becoming an increasingly tense encounter, while in reality both sides had chances to make this tie their own with a number of shots firing in as the match wore down.

But ultimately it was to be the DStv Premiership's night as they progressed to the semi-finals of the fiercely contested continental competition.
