South African youth international Tashreeq Matthews could be at a new club in the Swedish topflight by the end of the week.
Reports abroad have linked the 21-year-old attacker with a transfer from Varbergs to their Premier League rivals IK Sirius before the transfer window to register players closes on Thursday - making it a race against time.
The Swedish local media were reporting today [Tuesday] that Matthews had already agreed personal terms, suggesting the move is now only subject to medicals before the player puts pen to paper and begins a new chapter.
Matthews began his career with the now defunct Ajax Cape Town youth academy four years ago and not long after he was promoted to the senior team he made one of the biggest moves from a Premier Soccer League perspective when he was snapped up by German Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
He joined their U19 side and then loaned out to the Utrecht U21 team to get him ready to rub shoulders with the senior team.
Matthews never really got the opportunity to do so and was sent on another short stint to Swedish club Helsingborg, where he commanded a regular place.
When it was time to return to Dortmund, another Swedish team in Varbergs moved quickly to sign him on a permanent transfer, but they are now set to lose him to IK Sirius a little over two years later.
An announcement on the transfer is now imminent.
