Mikel Arteta stunned after Arsenal fail to beat Man Utd in FA Cup third round

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was in a state of disbelief after watching his side dominate Man Utd in the FA Cup third round only for them to lose on penalties.

The Gunners produced far more opportunities than United throughout the game but and even played a decent chunk of the game with a man advantage after Diogo Dallot was sent off in the 61st minute.

However, it ended 1-1 at the end of regular time after goals from Bruno Fernandes (52') and Gabriel Magalhaes (63') cancelled each other out.

Arsenal were unable to find another goal in extra time and the tie was decided by spot kicks.

"It is incredible how you don't win that game. The dominance, the superiority, and everything that we did to try to win the game and we didn't get what we deserved. We go home extremely sad but I cannot be prouder of my players," Arteta said after the game.

"This is what I take. I am extremely disappointed, but I cannot put my focus on that. It would be very, very unfair."

The Arsenal boss also admitted the early prognosis on Babriel Jesus' injury was not positive.

"(It is a) big worry," said Arteta. "It's not looking good. The worrying factor is the feeling that he had, and the pain that he was in."

For his part, Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim conceded his side need a bit of luck to prevail today but added he always felt they had it in them.

"I felt since the first moment that today was our day," he said. "Football works in cycles. In one week your life can change. You can see with Altay. Against Tottenham, everybody was pointing the finger, and I understand that, and today he was our hero."
