They now face the tough task of avoiding relegation from the Motsepe Foundation Championship in the nine matches that remain.
Pupuma says their priority was always to consolidate their status in the second tier.
''Why would we be in the division if we don't play to win the league?
''I think we learnt a lot this season, it is new for us and I hope the boys can stamp their authority,'' said Pupuma.
Pupuma is also the chairman of the club and has a full-time job as a doctor, which suggests his attention is divided.
He admits there will be time to hand over.
''I think the guys are coming alright, this is not where I am going to spend the rest of my life. I obviously can't fire myself but I'm waiting for the right moment for them to come through and take over,'' added Pupuma.
Milford are only one point above bottom of the table side Platinum City, and with the injury list growing there is cause for concern.
Pupuma concluded by explaining why the two games in the Nedbank Cup against Chiefs and Stellies were such a contrast.
''They can hold on to a certain period, it gets to a point where it is frustrating for you as the senior team - you then start panicking and it becomes difficult for you to score, that worked for us at FNB'' he concluded.
