Mohamed Salah thrilled to set new opening-day Premier League record

This achievement moved him ahead of Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, and Alan Shearer as the most prolific opening-day scorer in Premier League history.

In the match against Ipswich Town, Salah also assisted Diogo Jota, helping Liverpool secure a 2-0 victory.

"I don't know! Hopefully I'll keep going like this through the whole season, not just the first game," Salah, 32, said on the club's website when asked why he is so productive on the opening day of seasons.

"I try to help the team all the time. The most important thing is that the team wins the game. I'm always happy to score goals and to give assists so I just need to carry on."

The game marked Salah's 350th appearance for Liverpool, during which he has netted 212 goals, as he begins his eighth season with the club.

Meanwhile, new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot believes the Pharaohs captain has what it takes to play late in to his 30s because of the way he takes care of his body.

"If I see what he does to keep his body as it is to be ready to play every game, then I think there are many more years inside of him to play," Slot said of Salah.

"But I'm looking now at Brentford [next Sunday] and not at the end of the season! I don't believe in individuals, I believe more in the team. Mo can score goals because of good runs from other players, or because of buildups from the team. So I think Mo also needs the team."
