Mohammed Kudus delighted with West Ham start

Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus was delighted with West Ham's winning start to their Europa League campaign.

The Hammers defeated Serbian side Backa Topola 3-1 at the London Stadium on Thursday with goals from Nemanja Petrovic (66' OG), Kudus (70') and Tomas Soucek (82') after Petar Stanic (47') had put the away side in the league.

Kudus, who was making his first start for West Ham, explained that while they played a very strong team, it was a deserved result for the Premier League team.

He said on Ghanasoccernet: "In the first half we had most part of the game, but we couldn't create a lot in the final third. We knew we had to do better in the second half and you could see we made some good chances.

"They are a very good team so we prepared for them and we were ready for which way the game went. We have the principles we have to play with and that was it. We got the three points. That was good and now we™ll focus on the next game."

On his goal, the player added: "We know James Ward-Prowse has a fantastic delivery and any time we have a set-piece we have a chance to score. On that one I just took my responsibility, made the run and it went in."
