More offers on the table as Wydad lead race for Rulani Mokwena

Interest in coach Rulani Mokwena continues to grow, with his agent currently in North Africa, and SABC Sport understands a definitive decision on his future is set to be made this week.

The public broadcaster last week broke the news of Mokwena’s shock exit from Chloorkop, which was followed almost immediate by a tantalising offer from Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club

Steve Kapelushnick, who is the coach’s long-time representative and attorney, has made the trip to Casablanca to iron out details in a move that could be sealed, only should Mokwena be satisfied after his own assessment of what’s being made available to him.

SABC Sport has also been informed the 37-year-old tactician received another intriguing offer from Algerian giants USM Alger, who are attempting to lure him away from Wydad.

However, the Botola Pro League side, who finished in a disappointing sixth last season, remain clear favourites with talks already at an advanced stage.

In all likelihood, Mokwena willl be whisked out to Morocco in a private jet to put his ink on the dotted line once his contract terms are finalised, with some reservations over whether the club would allow him to recruit his own army of backroom staff.

The coach had been considering a sabbatical following what still is a surprise departure from Sundowns, despite where he still had three years remaining on a contract that was agreed to just 12 months ago.

The reigning DStv Premiership coach of the Season clinching the league title in historic fashion as The Brazilians suffered just one defeat out of 30 games, and added the inaugural African Football League to the club’s trophy cabinet.

However, an alleged rift with sporting director Flemming Berg is said to have been the catalyst behind the parting of ways, with former co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi having been put in charge, while Steve Komphela has also been recalled to the technical team.
