Motlanthe: SAFA implements equal pay & Bafana must compromise

The South African Football Association (SAFA) CEO, Adv. Tebogo Motlanthe has confirmed that they have started implementing some components of equal pay between Banyana Banyana and Bafana Bafana.

Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of the 2022 Clinix Solomon œStix Morewa tournament in Soweto today, Motlanthe says the realization of equal pay between the two national teams, will also have to see Bafana players making a compromise.

For a win, Bafana players get a bonus of R60 000 and R30 000 for a draw. SABC Sport understands that SAFA has started implementing equal pay when it comes to match allowances, and this is coming from their coffers as the sponsorship money is not enough to cover these fees.

When Banyana returned from the Women™s AFCON tournament as African champions, a lot was said about the need to finally implement equal pay and Motlanthe says they are now focusing on that.

œI think it will also need compromise from our male players, as you said without the corporate backing it will mean that whatever they were getting we need to relook at it and ensure that both teams get equal for the equal work they are doing, as we have heard the president of the country. But SAFA has engaged in in that process and we are saying - yes it™s a fair call and we are ready to implement that," said Motlanthe.

œWe were not far off, remember even in the past these players use to get different allowances but we have changed that its many years, we have not said much about it but it has changed that they get similar allowances.

"But now we need to take it to another level and say bonuses and all the pecks which comes with playing for the national team let us equal the ground, let us level the ground and we are doing that now.
