At its annual general meeting [AGM] last week the league confirmed through its executive committee report that the process to finalise new contracts for the MTN8 and the Nedbank Cup were at an advanced stage.
Both competitions reached their expiry dates at the end of the 2021/22 campaign, and although the MTN8 has already come and gone this season…that was based on an extension for a short-term deal for just one year.
“The parties agreed to extend the agreement for a further period of one-year pending the finalization of the PSL Digital Strategy, which would impact the terms and conditions of a long-term agreement,” read a report from the Exco.
Orlando Pirates were crowned MTN8 champions earlier this month, but there’s no confirmation yet of an extended contract.
But SABC Sport sources who attended the AGM have indicated that there were no concerns raised over an agreement being concluded in the coming months.
Another partnership renewal that the PSL has to get over the line is that of the Nedbank Cup having also ended at the end of the previous campaign earlier this year.
“At the time of preparing this report, negotiations were at an advanced stage for the renewal of the sponsorship for a further period,” stated the Exco.
What is positive is that on Thursday the draw for National First Division teams to qualify for the tournament set to kick off early next year during the second half of the 2022/23 season took place at the PSL offices.
You can expect an announcement in the new year.
