Nabi apologises to Chiefs fans after defeat against Sundowns

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has apologised to the multitudes of Chiefs fans for their 4-0 loss against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout.

Chiefs will now go to their 10th year without having won silverware.

After watching his team outplayed and outthought on the pitch, Nabi has promised the fans they will never witness such a below-par performance again.

"To congratulate our opponents, we believe that they deserve the win. Secondly, I would like to apologise to our fans because today we were not good in any way. For that we apologies to our fans that are down tonight after the result but we can promise them that we are gonna work harder to make the team better, to improve the team,” Nabi said.

“We knew that team was not as ready as people would think but today was an accident that we believe that it would not happen again in the future."

Earlier this week, Nabi also admitted that his team is far from being a finished product and should not be considered serious silverware contenders this season.

But his players were feeling the pressure, playing in front of more than 85 000 people and three-thirds of them coming to back Amakhosi, it’s possible that they couldn’t cope with the pressure.

Nabi also admits that his players struggled on the day.

"Somehow, I share your assessment that the players were not good enough today but the responsibility is mine as a coach. I'm gonna take full responsibility for today's game because I don't wanna criticise my players in front of media but I will do it inside,” the coach added.

“Everyone will take responsibility but I believe that it's true that they were far from their best performance because even at the beginning of the game they were nervous. A lot of missed passes, a lot of ball lost, and so on."
