Nasreddine Nabi’s warning to his young team after loss to SuperSport United

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi says the 1-0 loss to SuperSport United in the Betway Premiership is difficult to accept because they could have easily won this game and says this is a lesson for his young players in particular.

Chiefs, who had dumped United out of the Carling Knockout the previous week, beating them 4-0, had all the dominance in this game, with 13 goal attempts and three shots at goal.

United needed only one shot at goal to clinch the three points. Nabi says his players were too relaxed.

"The only thing is that we had some issues, especially in the first half on the left side because we always attacked on the right side and the left side didn't do enough. We tried to make some changes in the second half but we want our players to learn from today,” Nabi said.

“In the first half we believe that we could have easily killed the game, we had the control first 15, 20 minutes, and we were too relaxed. We had easy chances that we could have scored, it's a tough loss to swallow but we want this game to be a learning curve for our young players."

In the first half, Chiefs also lost Venezuelan international midfielder Edson Castillo, who has regained the form that made him popular with the fans when he arrived at the club. Nabi says even though they felt Castillo’s sub, he wouldn't attribute the loss to that.

"It's true that we would have loved to have Castillo the whole game because he's in form right now but we don't think and we don't believe that the Maart [Yusuf] replacement was not as good as he should have been. We believe that he did well and the trust that we had in him, he justified it," the coach explained.

After suffering three back-to-back losses, United head coach Gavin Hunt welcomed the win and also the effort from his team, saying it was all about getting the maximum points, thanks to Tashreeq Morris’ goal.

"Yeah, it was always gonna be tough for the week that we had. I mean they never played midweek, you can see we didn't have legs in the last 5, or 10 minutes but that was gonna be inevitable,” Hunt said.

“I thought we did enough, we played very well the first half, and second half obviously we let the game come to us and in our situation, we just had to try to get a result, so that's what we did and I thought we did well, everybody dug in, people playing in other position but that has been the situation this season. So, we move on and try and get another away game on Wednesday."
