New striker won’t solve Kaizer Chiefs problems - Nasreddine Nabi

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi says, as much as the club desperately need a new striker or attacker, this will not solve all their current problems.

Chiefs strikers have been misfiring this season, with Ranga Chivaviro, Ashley du Preez, and Wandile Duba having only managed seven goals between them so far in the league.

Their 1-0 loss to Cape Town City at Cape Town Stadium on Sunday was Amakhosi's fourth Betway Premiership defeat of the season, and Nabi is wary of pinning all his hopes on a new striker in the current transfer window.

"We don't feel that a striker can resolve all the issues that we've been having in the final third – the first thing is for every player to step up," said Nabi via his French translator.

"[The current attackers need to] be more calm when we get into those situations, to take better decisions and to make more movements to support the play.

"It's true that a [new] striker can give an opportunity or offer something more, but he won't resolve everything."

Asked if he was surprised by the lack of quality he has come to find at Chiefs, Nabi says he is hopeful the club's management will strengthen the team in the current window.

"It's obvious when you look at the squad, we feel that there is a need to strengthen the team, but we don't want to throw our players under the bus by saying they are not good," he added.

"They are good, and today they are in our squad, but every transfer you have the opportunity to try to strengthen the team, and the club is working very hard to find the best opportunities possible, and we hope that anyone we sign can improve the squad."
