Newcastle closing in on signing of AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali

Newcastle are on the verge of signing AC Milan and Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali, according to reports.

Tonali, just 23, is one of the most prized possessions in world football with his consistently impressive performances. The midfielder would command a hefty transfer free but with Newcastle's new-found wealth that should not pose an issue.

Milan's valuation of one of their most successful academy products in recent history is understood to be approximately ‚¬80m. However, the Rossoneri are believed to be willing to come down to Newcastle's offer of ‚¬70m plus ‚¬5m in bonuses

Tonali, who is currently away captaining Italy at the U21 European Championships, will sign a six-year contract at St James Park if reports are to be true.

Newcastle have reportedly beat off Chelsea for Tonali's signature due to offering a higher fee. Magpies coach Eddie Howe also had Inter Milan's Nicolo Barrella on his wishlist as well as Leicester James Maddison, but Tonali was always his first choice.
