The 27-year-old spent the previous season at Moroka Swallows, where he managed 25 appearances in all competitions, but returned to his parent club at the end of the campaign to have his future decided.
Even though he was a regular at Swallows during the 2022/23 campaign, the two clubs, who have a cordial relationship, did not agree on an extension for Lukhubeni to remain with the Dube Birds.
Following weeks of negotiations between all parties involved, the lanky full-back will not be part of coach Rulani Mokwena’s squad and will go on loan for a fifth time since earning promotion from the development set up in 2019 under then-mentor Pitso Mosimane.
Spurs, who are one of two newly-promoted sides in the DStv Premiership, along with Polokwane City, are expected to register Lukhubeni for the rest of the season.
The Mother City outfit will then assess whether to make a case for the player to join them permanently next year, although he remains contracted to the Brazilians despite clearly not being in their plans.
Lukhubeni was first loaned out to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, then joined Sekhukhune United, before his time was cut short and he moved to Maritzburg United in the same season.
The utility defender has started training with Spurs after he was spotted at Ikamva, but there yet to be an official announcement with the transfer window only closing on 22 September.
