Nico Elvedi keen to sign Borussia Monchengladbach contract after almost leaving

Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi is reportedly eyeing a contract extension at the Bundesliga club after almost joining Wolves in the Premier League.

Elvedi, whose current contract is set to expire in 2024, has initiated talks about extending his tenure with the club, according to Bild. However, he probably won't commit to a long-term arrangement.

Instead, it is anticipated that the 26-year-old will opt for a contract extension of at least one year, which will include a ‚¬10million release clause.

At the outset of the season, the Swiss international found himself mostly sidelined in Gladbach's matches, as he actively sought a move to the Premier League with Wolves.

Unfortunately, the interest from Wolves waned when their manager, Julen Lopetegui, departed, leading to the anticipated transfer falling through.

Following Elvedi's return from the international break, discussions regarding a new contract will recommence.

Furthermore, there are reports suggesting that Gerardo Seoane plans to utilise the 26-year-old as a right-back, introducing competition for Joe Scally, who has been struggling. This positional switch could signify a new phase in Elvedi's role at the club.
