Speaking at a press conference in Johannesburg earlier today, Zwane says the club has always had a plan and the recent results won’t affect that plan. Earlier this week, Chiefs Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr insisted that the club’s leadership is fully behind Zwane despite having collected only six points from a possible 18 points in the six matches played this year.
"I'm not going to this game worried about my job. The focus is on playing this game and making sure that the players apply themselves correctly and I am there for them as the head coach of the club," he said.
Zwane, who is in his first full season as the head coach, has seen the team lose eight matches in the league, following the 2-3 defeat to Golden Arrows last weekend. Mangethe says injuries have also contributed to their performance.
"We are obviously not happy with where we are. Injuries and many other things that happened, all the unforeseen circumstances have hindered our progress as a team. I'm sitting here, losing a player every game. I just need to help the players to believe in themselves and those who haven't been playing regularly get the opportunity to play as well," he added.
Amakhosi are also meeting a Pirates team that has been firing in recent matches, as they have scored 13 goals in the last six games with Monnapule Saleng and company having found their scoring boots. Zwane who will be attempting to complete a double over Pirates this season was asked how he plans to stop the Bucs’s scoring machine.
"Orlando Pirates are a quality side especially going forward. They've got very dynamic players. It's good seeing them performing the way they are right now, it's good for South African football. At the end of the day, it will go down to one thing, who's going to give a quality display and apply themselves correctly. The team that will give their best and come up with a game plan of the highest level on the day will be able to grind the results," he concluded.
