Nthabeleng Modiko expects tough University derby against TUT

University of Johannesburg Ladies coach Nthabeleng “Dunga” Modiko is expecting a tough University derby against TUT Matsantsantsa on Saturday afternoon.

UJ Ladies are chasing a back to back University derby triumph, having already overcome University of Pretoria 2-1 just last week.

Dunga says, as they go back to Pretoria, the key will be to stick to their game plan.

"It's always going to be a tough match, playing away from home. Any match away from home, we're missing our supporters and we're missing our home base," said Modiko.

"I think we're travelling to Pretoria – we were there just last week and we saw how hot it was, it's still summer time there, and I hope the Orange Army can come out in numbers to support us against TUT.

"They are a very good team, very formidable, they've got fresh players and fresh talent that is just complimenting how they are playing, and the style of play for the rest of the team.

"I think it's another University derby, for which USSA must be proud, and we're just looking forward to being able to play our game and continue on our own mission – give all the respect to TUT, and we're looking forward to this match."

UJ introduced eight new signings this season, including former AmaTuks  striker Gugu Dhlamini, who is currently among the leading scorers in the Hollywoodbets Super League, and Modiko is thoroughly impressed by their acquisition.

"A very young, impressive talent – Gugu Dhlamini, very humble and always hard working in training, and even harder [working] when it comes to matches," said 'Dunga'.

"It's been an amazing signing especially for ourselves, and credit must go to all the other teams she's played for because she comes with an immense experience and knowledge of the game.

"We are just reaping the benefits of having her in our squad, her excellence – even at this young age, it just go to show that her passion is still going to be long-lasting, and she's probably going to be a legend in the game in future years."
