Pirates got off to a positive start in the game, going into the half-time break 2-0 up. However, Richards Bay came back stronger in the second half.
The Buccaneers began the game very well, with Patrick Maswanganyi opening the scoring in the 22nd minute before adding another four minutes later.
Being 2-0 up, Pirates were in control of the game, creating several chances, but they couldnât find the back of the net again.
As a result, the Natal Rich Boys gained momentum in the second half, making a few threats in the Bucsâ box.
The away side went into the break with a 2-0 lead, looking in charge of the game.
In the second half, Richards Bay appeared to have a different mindset, putting a lot of pressure on the Buccaneers. For their efforts, the home team were rewarded with a goal just two minutes into the second half, thanks to Yanela Mbuthuma.
The Natal Rich Boys looked like they might get another goal to further put pressure on their visitors but couldnât capitalize on their chances.
Pirates sealed the game and their spot in the next round of the Ke Yona Cup with a goal from Tshegofatso Mabasa in the dying minutes of the match, making it 3-1 and ensuring their progression to the last 16 of the tournament.
The victory sets them up for their next league clash with Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Saturday.
