Orlando Pirates strive for consistency in the Betway Premiership

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro insists they have to play every league game like a final if they are to stay consistent in the Betway Premiership.

The Sea Robbers finished second in the league last season.

Following their third straight win this season, beating Richards Bay 1-0, Riveiro says they have to sacrifice themselves in every game to keep winning.

"There is never only one reason to find yourself in the situation where we are right now. The most important is that the group knows and we all know how difficult it is, and how much we need to sacrifice ourselves every week that's something we want to protect for now, Riveiro said.

“We don't want to take another way. We know why the results are coming and we don't want to lose the tempo, it's our responsibility now to take care of ourselves, still work hard, and be humble.

So, we need to take every game as a final, as a serious one, as an important one, that's the mentality that we have right now. Today, it was proven and we have a final in six days but you didn't see today anybody with their minds somewhere else than this game against Richards Bay and these three points.

That's probably why right now we are happier with the results than maybe one or three years ago."

Pirates’ key players Olisah Ndah and Monnapule Saleng were missing in action yesterday and Riveiro says this was due to injury and they may not even be available for the final.

"No, if you remember our last game against Polokwane City both Olisah and Saleng were subbed because of different injuries, that's the reason why they are not here, it's because they couldn't make it,” he added.

They were not available for selection and actually, we are not 100& sure that they are gonna be in the final as well. We're not saving anybody because like I said before we are taking every game like a final for us.

“We are giving the same respect to Richards Bay as the respect that we are going to give to Stellenbosch in the final, that's the way we want to do things. There's nothing like saving players."
