Orlando Pirates target CAFCL quarter-final spot - Jose Riveiro

Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro says their intentions are to go on the offensive against CR Belouizdad as early as possible, as they look to seal qualification to the CAF Champions League quarter-finals.

Pirates come into this encounter with eight points from four matches, and need just a win over the Algerians to secure their passage to the last eight with a game to spare.

Riveiro is aware of what’s at stake and says they are not looking to use calculators.

"At the same time, we're more focussed on ourselves and we're not using maths or calculators at this stage of the group stage – we want to win the game, we're playing home and we know these three points take us to the space we want to be in," said Riveiro.

"So that's all – we're going to try to be active from the first minute, looking for the result we want, which is nothing other than a win, and then knowing and understanding during the game there will be multiple situations and adaptations.

"The team that will do those adaptations and adjustments [most effectively] during the 90 minutes will probably be the winning team in the end."

CRB, who are just two points adrift of Pirates in third place in Group C, will be buoyed after they shocked Al Ahly with a 1-0 win last week, and the Spaniard is wary of the versatility in their tactical approach.

"I wish I could know [what to expect], but before the games we are navigating a space full of speculations about different possibilities of the opponent," he added.

"What I can tell you is that they are capable of approaching the game in multiple ways, they are a very versatile team – tactically they come with really good players with speed, and whatever they do, they do it in a very high tempo."
