Oswin Appollis move to Algeria on verge of collapse

SABC Sport can reveal that winger Oswin Appollis’ much publicised move to Algeria is hanging by the thinnest of threads.

The public broadcaster first reported of the potential transfer for the Bafana Bafana international to MC Alger after Polokwane City had agreed to sell the player before the start of the Betway Premiership.

It has now emerged that weeks later, the North African outfit and their Premier Soccer League [PSL] counterparts are yet to formally sign off the paperwork for the move to be finalised.

As expected, Rise and Shine were already preparing for life without Appollis given the comments made by coach Phuti Mohafe last week at the launch of the upcoming 2024/25 season in Johannesburg.

Mohafe said the deal was advanced stages of being concluded, but as things stand the player might not be leaving the club just yet.

MC Alger are now in a race against time with the Algerian transfer window deadline scheduled for midnight on Tuesday.

Indications are that there is currently no formal deal in place for Polokwane City to release Appollis, who has travelled to South Sudan with the national team for their crucial Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] qualifier this afternoon.

Further complication is around whether Appollis would also be able to complete a medical in time should the two clubs reach a binding agreement.

SABC Sport has been led to believe personal terms would not be delayed given the offer from MC Alger meets the players’ demands.

The imminent collapse would then open the door for local clubs, especially Kaizer Chiefs, who have made it clear they have Appollis on their wishlist.

Coach Nasreddine Nabi confirmed Amakhosi are in the market for a winger and he is 10 days before the PSL transfer window slams shut.
