Unwelcome scenes broke out as North West side Orbit College secured their promotion to the Mostepe Foundation Championship with a 1-0 win over local KwaZulu-Natal outfit Umsinga United.
The result was meant with unruly, disgruntled home supporters who hurled missiles onto the pitch before gunfire broke out, placing fans, teams, officials and SABC Sport's production crew in danger.
The North West side, SABC Sport production team, including senior reporter Velile Mnyandu, football officials, and members of the general public remained locked inside the stadium after the gunfire.
It is understood that a member of Umsinga United's technical team was injured amid the unrest, with one of the missiles from the stands having struck him on the head.
