Pedri backs Dani Olmo's arrival at FC Barcelona

He expressed his excitement over the imminent signing of Dani Olmo from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, a move that could be confirmed as early as today (Friday).

However, Pedri also confirmed that he would be unable to participate in the upcoming Joan Gamper Trophy match on Monday against Monaco due to an ongoing recovery from a knee injury.

"I'm really pleased that Dani Olmo is coming to Barcelona," Pedri revealed during the session. "We get along very well, and I'm sure he'll bring a lot to the team. He already showed his quality during the Euros."

This comment highlighted Pedri's enthusiasm for the arrival of his fellow Spaniard, whose performance in the European Championship was widely praised.

On Thursday, Olmo's representatives were reportedly at the club's training ground, finalising the paperwork, with an official announcement expected soon.

Olmo's arrival is likely to generate significant excitement among Barcelona fans, especially with the Gamper match on the horizon. Unfortunately, Pedri won't be part of that game, as he continues to recover from the knee injury sustained during Spain's match against Germany at the Euros.

The initial prognosis indicated a recovery period of four to six weeks, and with a month now passed, Pedri is still on the mend.

Pedri's injury has kept him from training under Barcelona's new coach Hansi Flick. Although the Spanish internationals returned to training on Monday, they rejoined their teammates after the squad returned from their tour in the United States.

Pedri is expected to reunite with his teammates on Saturday, following a brief two-day break given by Flick. Despite his injury, Pedri remains eager to get back on the pitch and is particularly looking forward to working alongside Thiago Alcantara, who is also expected to be an integral part of Barcelona's midfield.

One topic still under discussion at Barcelona this summer is the selection of the club's new captains.

Pedri, who has rapidly become one of the team's most influential players, did not shy away from expressing his ambition to wear the captain's armband one day. "I'd love to be captain in the future," he admitted, indicating his growing leadership aspirations within the squad.
